c/m homework

Finish the energy/momentum hw from the last blog post.  And try these:

Any/all of the problems 1-5.  And 6 and/or 7, if time permits.

Read 9-2 on how to compute (with calculus) the c/m of a rigid body.

Enjoy!

hw

1.  Solve for the general 1-D collision problem.  See solution in book.  It's a giant mess.  Don't fret if you don't get it.  Trying is the "fun" part.

2.  Read 9.9 - 9.11.

3.  Physics!  Yay!!

hw

Begin to read the chapter (9) on momentum, center of mass, and collisions.  You can temporarily skip over the calculus treatment on how to computer center of mass.  I've not yet decided if we're covering that topic.

Good work on the quizzes today!  I'm really pleased with the results.  Even those of you who didn't earn the high score you may have wanted - I could follow your reasoning closely.

Read my comments - some are more extensive than others - make sure they make a little sense.  Work the problem(s) again, if you didn't get the answer.  The first problem has an ugly answer.  The second problem is 4.4 m/s.

We've covered energy pretty well.  Next topic is momentum and collisions.  We'll be starting a lab within the next 2-3 classes.  Woo hoo!
